Unwoven Memories: Freddie's Play, 2025

Crafted with sincere love and a sprinkle of whimsy, this installation pays tribute to Freddie, my recently passed cat. Freddie eschewed typical feline amusements like cat trees, preferring to scratch at my furniture and frolic with yarns—behaviours that inspired this artwork's core elements. The piece includes a video that reenacts Freddie's favourite pastimes, with me portraying him in an imagined scenario where he interacts playfully with a loom. Through this creative reimagining, the installation invites viewers to explore themes of memory and presence and to contemplate the human-animal bond. It challenges us to consider unique, affectionate ways of honouring our loved ones without the burden of sorrow. Here, Freddie's memory invokes not sadness but the joy and playfulness that characterized his life and our bond. Visitors to the installation are encouraged to reflect on these themes and experience the blend of love and light-heartedness that defined Freddie's existence. Meow.
